If they consider that you have the necessary work experience and acceptable qualifications, they issue a certificate that you need for further process of applying for a work visa for Australia.

The Skills Assessment is required for several types of work visas such as:
- Employer Nomination Scheme visa Subclass 186 – Direct Entry Stream
- Skilled Independent visa Subclass 189
- Skilled Nominated visa Subclass 190
- Temporary Graduate visa 485 – Graduate Stream
- Skilled Regional (Provisional) visa Subclass 489
